DCM11: Five more recommendations

In between frantic efforts to pack for this weekend in some fashion falling between "stepping outside for a few errands" and "going on safari," I thought I'd follow up my five earlier Del Close Marathon recommendations with a few more show suggestions received/remembered since then...

  1. UCBW: Kicking Ass & Taking Suggestions
Saturday 8/15, 5:15 am at the UCB
UCBW calls itself the greatest comedy wrestling league in the world - a distinction which must certainly appeal to two sets of fans to some extent, and the intersection of those two groups to a ridiculous extent. For people who love comedy, wrestling, AND being awake at dawn? Heaven. Suggested by (and featuring) Zach Linder.
  2. Bastards, Inc.
Saturday 8/15, 7:00 pm at The Peoples Improv Theater, $10
Their show is "technically" not part of the DCM, but I'll let it slide. Bastards, Inc. is one of Boston's best ensembles. They do work that is highly nuanced and sophisticated without being overly serious, and recently took home the "Best of New England" title at PIF. Suggested by (and featuring) Ryan Petti.
  3. DERRICK
Saturday 8/15, 1:00 am at the UCB
You know what? I know almost nothing about this group, except that they are responsible for some highly acclaimed little videos, and have a feature film coming out later this year. I'm listing them here because they were the most-mentioned group I hadn't seen when I initially put out the call for show suggestions - suggested first, however, by Neil Reynolds.
  4. and 5. Marjean and Rondo
Friday 8/14, 10:15 pm at Urban Stages and Sunday 8/16, 12:00 am at the UCB
Have to give a plug to two of ImprovBoston's Harold teams, featuring several old colleagues and mentioned this week in The Apiary by Brian Perry. Which rhymes.

And with that, it's time to gather up the snacks and ironic sneakers and try to remember when our flight leaves in the morning. See you in New York!
